The first settlers used bluestone as one of the primary building materials, and evidence of bluestones endurance can be seen throughout the Valley the "Bluestone Campus" of James Madison University, the Virginia Military Institute, Washington & Lee University, Belle Grove Plantation in Strasburg, and the Stonewall Jackson Home.
